My daily, an 06 Mariner, gets 19 in almost exclusively city driving which isn't bad as my 05 Mustang got somewhere around 17 driving the same route. The Mustang did better on the highway, though as it could get in the upper twenties and the Mariner can't do better than 25.

Some other vehicles I've had over the past few months:

2014 Nissan Frontier (100% highway as well) - Avg. 9.5 MPG
2014 Chrysler 300 (V6) - Avg 11 MPG (90% highway)
2014 Hyundai Sonata - Avg 28 MPG (100% highway)
2014 BMW 760LI - Avg 13 MPG (100% highway)
2013 Golf GTI - Avg 22 MPG (70% highway / 30% backroads)
2013 Jaguar XKR - Avg 10 MPG (60% highway / 30% backroads / 10% city)

There's several more but yea, that's the gist. As you can see I tend to drive very uneconomically. I've had all of these cars for a week or longer. Highway includes single lane traffic each direction highway.

The shop owner left today for a 15 hour endurance race at Watkins Glen, but there's still a couple guys keeping the cars moving along in the shop. I'll post more specifically about the shop the next time I stop by after hopefully getting more word on the wagon.

My current average sits around 14.5-15mpg according to the onboard computer. If I don't have passengers, it usually drops to about 13. The best I've averaged on a full highway trip is 19.7 averaging ~75mph.

Not a problem now, but it's going to hurt once my daily commute is no longer 0 miles. Might be time to stop running premium and load an 87 octane tune.

My JSW is a 2013 and has the "old" TDI motor that doesn't need Diesel Exhaust Fluid. From what I understand the "new" motor uses DEF to keep the emissions down while picking up with HP slightly and adding even more torque.

That said my mileage numbers are similar to yours.

You have a DPF trap and a Common rail system that many owners have had issues with. The 2009 introduction saw a lot of HPFP failures. DPF trap can become a problem if you do too many short trips and it either plugs, or has a run away and melts.

Mine's a 2006. The weak points are the injector lobes wearing on the camshaft (unit injectors). The DMF and EGR cooler can cause issues but those are on the 2009+ as well.
